It's about time this was abandoned. I don't understand how these politicians can talk about this with a straight face. They're here illegally. Work on becoming a citizen through legal means if you're serious about becoming an American. I know it's not the easy route but I would expect no less from another country if an American wished to become a citizen there.

Arresting Veterans on Veteran's Day

This sounds a little silly to me. I understand that the intention of the parade was to honor our vets and show support for the troops but people need to understand that supporting the troops and supporting the war are very different. I personally feel that opposing the war is supporting our troops. What better way to show support than to work to bring them home safely?

I admit that much of the anti-war dramatics gets tired but perhaps we should listen to the vets.

Busy Weekend

On Saturday the family went to a nurse in outside of Applebees in Ann Arbor. It was in response to a woman in Kentucky being asked to cover up while nursing while dining. A lot of people showed up and we received many honks of support. It was pretty hot in the sun and some Applebees workers brought us some water. It was a nice gesture and it was appreciated.

Sunday, I attended a Ron Paul rally and listened to Michigan Republican Chairman Saul Anuzis speak. There had to be over 100 supporters there. Saul gave us some of his background and urged us to stick with the process win or lose. I know it's in his best interest to grow the party but he's right. If more of us were more involved with the party at the local level, we would have an easier time getting Ron Paul's message across to Republican members.

Next he explained to us the precinct delegate process and how we go about getting to elected to the state convention to vote. It was informative and hope some of the video of this gets posted so I can review and make sure I completely understand. It makes me wonder if it's made this complicated to keep many people becoming active to make a change.

Lastly he answered questions, mostly about the upcoming Mackinac conference. On a side note he explained his motives for trying to get Ron Paul removed from future Republican debates.

Overall this was a good move by Saul to meet with us. I hope the other supporters follow his advice and get active with the party. This campaign won't get as far as we want working against them.

I haven't posted in a while. This is largely due to Ron Paul. I spend most of my online free time researching and finding ways to get him elected. If you don't know who he is, I urge you to spend some time reading about him.

More Synthetic Biology

Just read this article.

I really think synthetic biology is a bad idea. This isn't religious fueled opposition. Humans tend to do things without considerations of consequences. I worry pursuing this will come back to haunt us in the future.

I understand the scientists working on this are brilliant but in their workings do they ever stop to consider what could happen as a result of their findings? How would a synthetic lifeform act if released? What could it screw up? Would it evolve in time?

I think they should leave this alone and go to bed with comfort of knowing they could do this if they wanted to but won't because of the danger.

Sodium Benzoate

For the past few years I've avoided sodium benzoate but occasionally would overlook it. I don't trust preservatives. After reading this, I'm going be be more strict about not purchasing products that contain it.

President Grants Himself Powers

I recently read this. Where in the Constitution does it say that the president can give himself additional powers? What country are we living in? What year is it? Where's the outrage?

He will be able to assume control of the government in the event of a catastrophic emergency. They define catastrophic emergency as "any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government function". So if China has a major economic collapse he can take over the government because it will certainly hurt our economy.

Please consider Ron Paul for President as he will work to bring the executive branch back in line with the Constitution.

I was forwarded this today and it's a really interesting article. It's not us or the "freedoms" we enjoy that they hate, it's the careless actions of our government. Perhaps potential consequences should be better weighed before making decisions that can impact millions of people.

A Worthy Presidential Candidate

I don't consider myself a member of any political party, I support the best candidate at the time. When I heard Ron Paul was running for president in 2008 I was very excited. He is a congressman from Texas with a spotless voting record. His knowledge of the Constitution and his devotion to upholding freedoms protected by the Constitution is admirable.

Recently, the first Republican debates were held in California. I've watched portions of it and was very impressed with his responses. He was very direct and never dodged the questions asked. An online poll on MSNBC shows that he was received very well.

Today I'm reading how various media outlets are censoring him and his campaign. I've read on ABC's forums comments by supporters are being deleted. If you look here you will see that Yahoo doesn't even have him listed as a presidential candidate. Myspace is blocking accounts that support him. Watch this.

Seeing this saddens me. For him to have any chance with winning this election he's going to need a lot of grassroots support. I urge you to do more research about him, what he's done and what he plans to do. And if he's the right candidate for you, I urge you to support him any way you can.

Aspartame

Today I read about a new study that shows aspartame alters genes of certain organs here. This doesn't surprise me. I've been reading about how bad this stuff is for the past few years. It's sad that people are poisoning themselves daily with this stuff and are paying for it later in life with increased health problems. Aspartame won't go away until people start learning the truth and stop consuming it.

Dead Sea Scrolls

I read an article today that disturbed me. The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947, 60 years ago and they have never been translated and published in their entirety.

The Dead Sea Scrolls contain writings from the Essenes - a sect of the Jewish faith. There is evidence that Jesus was an Essene prior to his baptism. Publishing these could give more insight into the Jewish faith as it was 2000+ years ago and may have give more information about the origins of Christianity.

I'm not a religious person but the effect that religion has had on our civilization is undeniable. Information like this shouldn't be in a museum collecting dust and slowly disintegrating.

A Few Points Regarding Yesterday's Shooting

Virginia is a concealed carry state. Virginia Tech explicitly doesn't allow the carrying or possession of firearms on campus. A lot of this bloodshed could have been avoided.

I wonder if the shooter lawfully purchased the weapons.

Synthetic Biology

I've been hearing a bit about this recently and it scares me. Synthetic biology is apparently the next frontier in the manipulation of life. Where instead of swapping genes around, biologists are creating life from scratch. Religious repercussions aside, this sounds like a really bad idea. Nature has had a very long time to perfect what we have today. What makes us think as a species that we're qualified to do such a thing. Are we so arrogant? Exploring such frontiers will eventually be our undoing.

We need to realize that nature is so much bigger than us. Focus is needed on learning to harmoniously live with what we've been given rather than trying to change it.

An Opportunity

A commercial real estate company has contacted us and is interested in purchasing our property. It sounds like they want to put up some kind of strip mall or something. It has a long way to go if anything is going to come of this but we're very excited nonetheless.

My wife and I have our hearts set on moving out of Michigan. This could be the catalyst needed to make it happen.
